Feedback on Nova Scotia's draft coastal strategy is now available online. "The thoughtful and thorough feedback we've received on this draft strategy makes it clear to us how important the state of our coast is to Nova Scotians," said Fisheries and Aquaculture Minister Sterling Belliveau. With a focus on the roles wetlands play to the province's landscapes and their value to society, the policy represents a commitment to consistent management of Nova Scotia’s wetlands while allowing for sustainable economic development in surrounding communities. $10M for St. John's Water Infrastructure

The City of St. John’s will receive approximately $10 million through the 2011 Municipal Capital Works program for municipal infrastructure projects. The City will conduct a number of street rehabilitation projects with the assistance of this funding. Sanitary and storm sewer reconstruction will occur on Hoyles Avenue and from Rennies River Bridge to Churchill Square (Phase 1) and from Churchill Square to Allandale Place (Phase 2). MNL: Clean Drinking Water a Priority for Municipalities

Municipalities Newfoundland and Labrador (MNL) is not happy with recent comments from Environment and Conservation Minister Ross Wiseman. In a press release, MNL president Harry Hallett, Mayor of the Town of Leading Tickles, rejected comments that Wiseman made regarding the role of municipalities and safe drinking water. Two Canadian water projects received honours at the Federation of Canadian Municipalities' (FCM) 2011 Sustainable Communities Awards yesterday in Victoria, British Columbia. As part of its goal to develop guidelines for wetland protection, New Brunswick's provincial government will partner with the Atlantic Coastal Action Program (ACAP) of Saint John to establish a Wetland Restoration Inventory for the Greater Saint John region, announced Environment Minister Margaret-Ann Blaney yesterday. A new wetland predictive tool will soon be part of the GeoNB Map Viewer, New Brunswick's free internet-based application for viewing maps and aerial photos of the province. Available online through Service New Brunswick, the new application enables users to search GeoNB for wetlands or potential wetlands and analyze their proximity to other locations on the map, a function that may help real estate agents, land developers and potential buyers determine whether a prospective development is potentially within or close to a wetland or potential wetland. New Brunswick's government is developing operational guidelines as part of its wetland conservation policy to achieve effective and consistent wetlands protection. Newfoundland to Share Water Expertise with Jordan

Newfoundland and Labrador's water expertise is being recognized on an international level, having been invited by the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) to assist Jordan with the improvement of its water resources management.
